Sounds to me that the fish in question is Pachypanchax
sakaramyi. See the January/April - Volume 30, No. 1-2, 1997 Of the JAKA for a
complete description of this fish.
I obtained this fish about six months ago at a North Jersey
Aquarium Society auction. They were bred by Paul Loiselle. I have found them
easy to keep, even in the hard water here. In fact , a few days ago I noticed
several fry swimming alongside their parents. Mop breeding also seems to work
quite well.
