AKA Secure Server
Folks,
This is to advise you of another step forward for the AKA Online. I have
just finished all the machinations needed to set up a secure server. So,
you can join the AKA, pay dues, or make other purchases, using a secure
transaction. This means that the information is encrypted during
transmission, so that, in the unlike event that someone intercepted it,
they could not read the information. If you are using a old browser, like
Netscape 2.0 or MSIE 2.0, you may get a message, or series of messages,
indicating that the browser does not recognize the certificate. This
happens because the certificate is issued by Thawte, a newcomer to offering
this service, and older browsers do not know about their certs.
Nevertheless, the transaction is still secure. Some newer browsers, such as
Netscape Communicator 4.0 (and I think Navigator 3.0, and I suppose MSIE's
latest) allow you to examine the security of the document. This will show
that the page is secure.
This should be a convenience for all "online shoppers". I hope that it will
be a particular boon to foreign members, to allow them to pay for dues by
credit card, avoiding bank charges for changing currencies. The next step
will be to redesign the online store to offer all AKA goods and services
online.
Buy up!
