Re: KillieTalk Digest V1 #4

Brian,

I am pleased to hear our efforts to spawn the Zanzibar Nothos was a
success. Even though we did get the N. guentheri back alive, I had severe
doubts at the time. It was amazing how well they recovered in the fishroom.

I agree that cannabilism in the N. ocellatus pools must play a role in
reducing numbers and that it is appropriate for the numbers of such a
fearsome predator to be low. In fact, I was implying that early hatching
would lead to loss of fry, which would certainly be largely by predation.
Possibly there are multiple factors involved, as I have observed that the
survivability of eggs of this sp. is low too. I can't really say, of
course, how egg survival in my fishroom compares to egg survival in the
wild.

I look forward to a little more traffic on killietalk to serve as a proper
test. I wanted to point out too, that as this is a digest, in which several
messages will be concatenated, it is important to delete parts that are not
of interest in your reply. You might leave a few sentences that provide
context for your reply, but delete the rest. Otherwise we'll have pages of
old messages to wade through.

Regards,

Barry
