Subject: [Killietalk] Silent participants
I've been sort of lurking here for years. My tanks are empty at the
moment waiting for me to finish up a few remodeling projects.
I don't know how many others are in my position. Not that it matters as
I can really only speak for myself. I have participated in internet
forums and mailing lists for years going back to the BBS days of forums
and live chat groups. I just wanted to point out the one HUGE
difference between the two.
With an e-mail list the news and opportunity to participate comes to you
along with the mail you will/may read anyway on as regular a basis as
you choose. While with a forum, you must take a moment out of your busy
day to go to that place where you wouldn't be except by a deliberate
choice to do so. E-mail is there anyway so long as one does any e-mail,
the killietalk is always there. If you filter mail as I do, it always
has a place. I can dip in and read the latest with no special effort.
There is a constant reminder that I do have an interest even though I'm
not currently actively participating. That will never happen with a forum.
....... just my thoughts
