Got a pair of these about a year ago and they spawned enough fry that I'm
now passing them out as party favors at the auctions I attend. A recient
discussion with Al seemed to hint that Fundalopanchax gardneri is
essentially a "mutt" species these days. I think this is true, based on my
breeding. The original trio were about 1.5 inches in length, but the fry
they spawned aren't much over an inch. I must admit I love these runts
because they are similar to the gardneri I raised nearly 20 years ago. I
have been looking for "gardneri dwarf" and I suppose I can say I have
found
them. I supose my question is - what remains of pure strains of gardneri?
The sorts I breed have spotted anal fins, so i assume there is "akure"
somewnher in their ancestry. Hugde, navy blue gardneri appear to be
"nigeriansus". "Misage" is another big, blue garnderi. Am I in the process
of creating Fp. Gardneri "sieloffewinsis" ?? Thank Gawd the Fp. schelii
breed true!
