Re: [Killietalk] Fp. gardneri

The only reason a gardneri species would be a mutt is because of the lack of attention the person keepng them has provided. There are many gardneri secies. All beautiful fish. It is imperative that they be kept apart to maintain the individuality of each specie. Special attention must be given in egg collecting and labeling. The poor care and attention give to them leads to what you call a mutt fish.

Subject: [Killietalk] Fp. gardneri

Got a pair of these about a year ago and they spawned enough fry that I'm
now passing them out as party favors at the auctions I attend. A recient
discussion with Al seemed to hint that Fundalopanchax gardneri is
essentially a "mutt" species these days. I think this is true, based on my
breeding. The original trio were about 1.5 inches in length, but the fry
they spawned aren't much over an inch. I must admit I love these runts
because they are similar to the gardneri I raised nearly 20 years ago. I
have been looking for "gardneri dwarf" and I suppose I can say I have found
them. I supose my question is - what remains of pure strains of gardneri?
The sorts I breed have spotted anal fins, so i assume there is "akure"
somewnher in their ancestry. Hugde, navy blue gardneri appear to be
"nigeriansus". "Misage" is another big, blue garnderi. Am I in the process
of creating Fp. Gardneri "sieloffewinsis" ?? Thank Gawd the Fp. schelii
breed true!
