Re: [Killietalk] Box sales

Hi,
If you mean make money to offset a fraction of the expenses of their
killie hobby, then I would agree that some (although not a lot) have that
motivation. I belong to two affiliate clubs with perhaps 45 members between
the two. I know of NO ONE who is motivated to make money as in a
"profitable" hobby. I find it noble and I applaud those who donate all
their auction proceeds to the club. I find it curious though that a few of
these same people seem to want other killie hobbyists who may feel otherwise
or may be in a very different financial situation to extend that same level
of generosity. I guess this feeling may be natural enough given human nature
as well. Since no one is ever prevented from donating their auction proceeds
should they wish, no one should be begrudged fair value for their fish as
well. Now what is considered fair value may be a valid issue. But, I
maintain that AVERAGE prices of perhaps $7 a pair at a local monthly
auction, $10 a pair at a local annual show box sale, $12 a pair at a
regional show box sale and $14 a pair at a national convention box sale
represents fair value to buyer, seller, and club......... and can be easily
accomplished with appropriate minimum bids and % host club cuts. The
threshold to satisfy all (buyer, club, and most importantly seller/breeder)
is simply not that high.
