[Killietalk] Distributing fish; was RE: Box sales

I abridged Richards reply to this relevant part:
"If you have been in the hobby for more than a few years and the fish you
want are not coming your way, then maybe you should look in the mirror for
the reasons why."

...Funny, I can't tell you how many times in the short while I've been into
just killifish, that when you "give" away fish, often it's only to never see
the fish or person emerge again; ever...

Not that ANYONE is "buying friends" with fish, just at some point you would
like to see some evidence of that "freebie" you just provided...I probably
will not stop offering fish for next to nothing (I can't bring myself to
make a fish have a higher value than someone's enjoyment)

...BUT, "free" things bring out the worst "opportunist", and that's the
chance you take with free/low cost fish. So, I can understand the few folks
I know who always sell fish...heck 1/2 the time they usually went through
more bother than the money was worth...so I "get it"...

Still OTOH, "networking" has it's issues also...I appears too often some
species seem to get lost in a "clique cycle"...This is under the mantra they
get to "competent breeders", which could be a subjective equivalent to a
"friends network"...IMHO, that mindset could contribute to "Artificial
supply/demand shortages", making fish appear rare and/or difficult to breed,
when it simply could be the fish hasn't landed in a wide enough variety of
people and/or husbandry methods/environments (for example: Sanchez breeding
"cool water" diapterons in warm water, when the "network" insist this is
against conventional wisdom)

So I do sometimes offer my fish on Aquabid or whatever "open
market"...anyone accusing me of being motivated by "greed" is
mis-informed/overly judgmental (and can KMA)...I'll start my auctions at one
buck, the premise being the fish will usually sell at "true market value"
(and they always do)...moreover, if/when things get outta hand; I'll often
cut the price or provide extras...the real motivation here is simply "fun"
and to truly just spread the fish around...
