Re: [Killietalk] Complaint Now daphnia raising
There are two common species of fruit fly, as well as multiple strains
of one of them. The larger, slightly harder and less fruitful (no pun
intended), and less common is Drosophila hydei. The more common one that
you most likely have is Drosophila melanogaster. They come in multiple
strains, including those with no wings and those with vestigial, or
present but not functional, wings. I'm not question that DIY mixes work,
I've had ones that exploded with flies, but even the most prestigious
dart frog breeder in the world has tried those and biological supply
ones, and agree that the hobby-based ones are unbeatable. Sorry for the
run-on sentences, too much info too little time.
