Re: [Killietalk] heat sealers
Hello Robert,
I have been using one I picked up at walmart in the appliance section. Works great, it is light weight plastic. NOT SMALL though approx. 15"L x 8"W x 2.5" high. Can seal large bags or even the 5x8 bags length wise.
Rival brand Seal a Meal. approx. $30 Plus you could do your own food too.
that is all I have ever used.
Note You could use a Dymo digital writer with the plastic labels (not the paper), to label the bags. Note if you are doing a lot I suggest the larger non hand held. as it holds memory of labels entered. Some will even link to computers. I will be implementing this in the future.
Previously I wrote on the bags with a permanent marker BEFORE adding any water. Much easier to do before the water. Typically using the accepted 3 letter abreviations. ie: Australe = AUS, sjoestedti = SJO etc.
Just my own remarks.
I would like to note that true styro peanuts absorb water and keep the bags from touching and obstructing gas exchange! Whereas paper if it saturates with water STOPS all gas exchange. Something to consider.
