Well... if you are handy with tools, used window pane glass is easy to cut and glue.  Or get a hardware or glass store to do it.

I managed to get a huge bunch of tanks for free.  I threw out tanks
that were cracked, and regretted it.  Im sure I could have fixed them
after others on this list that described how easy it is to make or fix
tanks.  

Oh well...

I have never found a cheap place for tanks.

How about a plastic storage tank instead of glass tanks? Great for
killis, and wont break, and take incredible abuse, such as grabbing
them from the narrow end and pulling them towards you.  Almost
guaranteed to break 5G glass tanks.
