[Killietalk] Fishroom in progess pt.1

....just sharing...with all this "free time" made possible by all the
nefarious circumstances intersecting to kill the US auto industry (I got off
lucky with just a 6 week sentence) <laugh>

....anyway, the list is quiet, and I hope Barry and co don't mind the
multiple post etc...it's just something to read, OR just delete the
following msg's if they are of no help/interest to ya....

Here is the long/expensive folly of a re-modeled fishroom in progress, I'm
chronicalling my mistakes so if anyone chooses to do a similar undertaking,
they might avoid the same ones:

1st lesson: fish need to be properly fed, even if in cold, dirty tanks:

2nd lesson: finishing drywall creates dust; drywall dust is a bad thing for
fish:

3rd lesson: 1/2" poly pipe comes as 2 types: one type (Funny pipe) is
thicker, less flexible, used for sprinklers, and actually won't puncture
well; it is totally unsuitable for drip emitters...cost $30 per 100ft roll
(OUCH)

...the 2nd (correct) type is thinner, so I went ahead and purchased a 300ft
of this allegedly "correct" 1/2" flex pipe....well guess what? It is
basically for outdoor use, so unless you don't mind a leak here and there,
it is not good for indoor use: mistake cost: about $50 (see below pic for
comparison)

...so next, I went ahead and wasted more money and time by using 1/2" PVC
rated for 300 PSI...this was a BIG MISTAKE!!!:

1st off, the pipe I got was not sched 40, and was too flexible for
unsupported use in 10ft lengths, NTM the fit was loose when mated to
standard 1/2" Tees & L's....IT LEAKED it numerous spots even when properly
primed & glued...this was another nasty $40 waste and shown below is the
subsequent pile of junked pipe to prove it:

4th lesson: my 2 cents to anyone doing a automatic water change system is go
with sched 40 3/4" pvc and w/tapped "KV1" air/water valves.... ...1 week,
dozens of hours, and $60 later, I "think" I got it right finally...IMHO, a
"threaded" tap emitter is a heckuva lot more reliable (leak-wise) than a
punctured 1/4" barb...then again it all depends on ones tolerance for
leaks...Shown below is a JehmCo "KV1" and a 11 cents 4GPH "Compensated"
button emitter
