[Killietalk] Another food for grindals ad white worms
I use dry kitten food for grindals, and it works. After reading the recomendation for using Wardly Algae Wafers, I tried Hikari Algae Wafers on an established grindal culture, and it is obvious the grindals are eating the Hikari.
Also tried extracting a few white worms from an old, moldy white worm culture, on fresh worm bedding, and applied the worms directly to dampened Hikari Algae Wafers. However, the white worms are not very interested on the Hikari algae wafers, and were noted to be crawling up the sides of the container, and NOT on the algae wafers.
Also, the worm bedding was dampened with tap water, so the white worms may not have considered that to be very palatable.
BTW, to xfer whiteworms from an old moldy culture to a clean culture, I located worms that were not in the moldy area, ie, sides or tops of the container, and gently lifted them off with a small water color brush, and gently transferred them to the new culture.
Today I placed a single piece of dry kitten food adjacent to the algae wafers, to determine if the white worms have any preference for the algae wafers or the dried kitten food.
NOTE. Avoid adult dried cat food. I tried it with grindals and they did not like the fibrous material that it contained, whereas the grindals consumed all the dried kitten food.
