I think the larger the tank the more self supporting they are.

Some of my larger racks the 2x4 bow down a bit and the center of the 6 foot
tanks is floating by just enough to see light through.

I like to tie my 2x4 racks to the walls so they have no chance of moving.

When designing a rack, do you need to have a support under each side of the
tank, or is it adequate to support the tank on the long dimension with the
short side "floating" as it were?

I would imagine large tanks, i.e. 50 gallons or more, would need support on
all four sides, but how about smaller tanks?
