Re: [Killietalk] Old Convention Favorites

Not sure it was the same one. The one I remember was at a HoJo. We went to
a great Chinese restaurant for dinner on Friday night and the banquet was
held in a place called the Rathskeller. The banquet speaker was Rosario La
Corte and he mainly spoke on sunlight and Discus. He was experimenting with
vitamins but did not want to discuss that. Not sure it was 1970 but was
within a year or two from then. As for auction prices I remember paying $20
for a pr of exigium and most people were in shock. Did not seem high to me
since I remember paying between $5 and $10 for a pr of australe in 1950. I
always considered the cost of attending was what I was paying toward the
first fish so a fish price was not all that much more than the initial cost
to go. Fish and tank prices are still very much the same in actual numbers
as they were in 1950 despite the dollar value change over the years. Used to
be $1 a gallon in 1950 until you hit plate glass then they jumped up. I
had a couple of 10's, one 15 and a 30 my dad made me. My tank stand was an
old buffet top my dad mounted on a tubular funeral home gurney he got from a
friend. The only killies I had back then were Riv cylandraceus, Epi chaperi
(now dageti) and australe. Still have not seen any dageti with the red
orange chin as nice as back then.
