Re: [Killietalk] Pond Update (Scott Davis)

Hi Scott

The electric fence works at least on cats in the UK . I keep and breed a stud of show budgies and have an fence around the outside flights. Used to have real problems with cats but since the installation that has gone away. The way I have done it is to ground the internal flight wire and make live via the fence control a fence of re-bar 6 inch square about 5 inches away from the internal flight , the animal then has to make contact with both wires to make the circuit. Should work in your situation only problem may be that mine is vertical but yours will be flat ??
Send you a few drawings if interested .

  Best
  Mike

I like the idea of a low hung electric line and/or a larger electric fence. However, aside from what the zoning laws probably say, here in the burgs we always have kids cutting through yards and that would be a problem even if it was only turned on after dark. :)

I do wonder if it could be turned on with a motion detector. Even a motion detector aimed low still doesn't a kid or teenager cutting through the back of the yard.

Now on the tubs near the house is an interesting, possibly more viable idea though...

Thank you Gay and George for the ideas.

All the best!

Off Googling battery powered electric fences and zoning codes.

Try an electric fence.
A battery run electric fence charger, electric fence smooth wire plus the 6
volt battery are fairly cheap.
String several smooth electric fence wires across the top of the tubs /
pools as well as a two or three strand fence around the tubs / pools will
work wonders.
