[Killietalk] 2008 Convention Site Updated

Hi folks,

I made some minor updates to the Convention Website today and they can be
seen at http://aka.org/convention

I want to remind everyone they should have received the eBNL by today and
the paper version was mailed on Monday so it should be arriving in your
mailboxes at this time or over the next couple of days. There is additional
news in the BNL this month about the 2008 Convention.

I STRONGLY URGE you to make your room reservation NOW. There are 4 rooms
left for Friday & Saturday nights and then we will have to start looking at
alternate options. Remember - you can always cancel a reservation 24 hour
in advance of arrival. While there may be a few more rooms we can add at
the hotel - I suspect there will not be many if any. One alternative we are
working on with the Sheraton is adding rooms at the Renaissance Hotel which
is nearby at the same price. DO NOT EXPECT TO FIND A ROOM AVAILABLE AS A
WALK-IN.

You should be seriously thinking about making your convention registration
as soon as possible also. Beginning next week, registration packets will be
sent in the mail containing lots of information - such as your Fish Sale
Room numbers and forms for the fish sale room and show room. Those will be
sent over the next couple of weeks.

I also want to urge everyone attending to bring a pair or two of interesting
killies for donation to the American Killifish Association Sunday Auction.
Donations are more than welcome and is something which is not commonly done
by people. The auction is a major fund-raising activity for the AKA and
looking towards the future, the stronger we can make the AKA financially,
the better off our hobby will be.

If you have not made up your mind about attending this year - I would
like to say it may be at least a couple years before the National Convention
will return to the Eastern part of the country. Next year the West Coast
gets its chance and we do not yet know where it will be in 2010 or 2011. I
can also say with some certainty - the 50th anniversary convention in 2012
will most likely be in St. Louis or Chicago, although those plans are not
yet a done deal and only basic discussions have taken place.

See you in Syracuse!
