Re: [Killietalk] hand carrying fish on airlines?

I have my doubts these day due to the liquid limitations.? Furthermore, if you are considering this, I think it would be prudent to ask ahead so you don't wind up at the security line trying to figure out what to do with the fish you are standing there with.? I personally have been just packing a styro in my suitcase and just checking them in at the ticketing line.? Don't ask, don't tell.? It's been working well, not a problem yet.? I really don't think TSA cares a long as it doen't smell like explosives.? I also really don't think they will take the time to ask the airline what their policy on live fish is when they have to process all that luggage.? I'm suprised that my styro has never been physically opened as of yet, I guess the xray is sufficient.? Also to those who worry about the xray exposure, all my fish breed and I haven't got any 3 headed pupfish swimming in my tanks as of yet.? I do take procautions and double bag my fish and then put the whole styro in a large bl
ack plastic garbage bag which I tie closed to protect against water leakage.? When I got home from the CKCO in Arizona, my suitcase was dry but the styro was soaked as some of the bags leaked under the reduced pressure at altitude.? That trip was on Southwest and I was asked by Ron Harlan if I was worried as they have been refusing to fly fish as of late, but there were no problems.

I'll be attending the WCW in Portland, and I've been presuming that I could hand
carry any fish that I might pick up onto my flights. I used to do this all the
time, but it has been many years since I've tried it. The light suddenly dawned
on me a few minutes ago that maybe one can't do it anymore. Since liquids are
not permitted, do they make an exception for fish? Or is the whole idea now
impractical? Should I just figure that I'll have to ship the fish separately?
