Re: [Killietalk] Fp. arnoldi

My FIL became progressively less fertile until there were none. It would
appear that there may have been an alien female or two in the bunch, and
I made the mistake of gang spawning them to "improve genetic diversity."

This was an important lesson to me. It may not be all bad to raise
several generations from a single pairs. Trying to use all the genes can
produce all sterile hybrids in Paludopanchax and Fp. where females of
different species look so much alike. I strongly suspect this is what
has happened to numerous collections of ARN. They even defeated Col. Scheel!

I really miss those lovely little lavender fish (FIL). :-( I'm still
looking for true ARN with the bright yellow bodies and unsymmetrical
caudal (yellow swordtail). [I'm not interested in the ones that look
like a THI hybrid, with muddy brownish coloring , blue iridescence and
wide-spread symmetrical caudal.]
