We have been discussing the inane regulations to preserve species whilst the swamps are filled in for industrial agriculture and the like.

Another example is the farmed Asian Arowanas.  These are deliberately farm raised for popular color varieties and with stipulations that they release a certain portion of their production back to the wild are forbidden to be imported despite the embedding of identifying tags in the fish sold for aquarium use. Apparently as a CITIES listed fish it makes no difference that they are farmed fish with documented pedigrees, they are still considered contraband.
