Re: [Killietalk] Shipping Problems
Man that's nothing...you should see my list of failures <LOL>
Anyway, concur: Bulgaria, Spain Germany & Japan do sorta seem to be
reasonable bets, but I still think it's in part due to the particulars of
the mail route & handling as much as anything else ...
...But OTOH, I got a clue who's who and "who is where" and the countries
with the better successes seem to have a disproportionate number of
competent breeders/sellers/packers
...and I'm still no big fan of every single aphy species eggs being shipped
"wholesale" in peat, as my personal experience with them is errant
hatching...but then again, I can't swear water will always be better either

i quickly went through my list of eggs that i've
purchased over the past 16 months to come up with
a pass fail value for each country i've gotten eggs
from. my criteria was 'did any eggs hatch'.
the numbers reflect hatched eggs/total batches.
1/2 France
0/2 England
1/1 Italy
5/7 Spain
13/15 USA
11/17 Germany
3/5 Japan
0/2 Poland
1/3 China
5/6 Bulgaria
2/5 Brazil
2/9 Thailand
1/1 canada
disclaimer: the results may be more an indication
of my ineptness and rookie-esqueness (real word?)
or weather related rather than an indication of
any one sellers trustworthiness. although i think
in some cases the 'record' speaks for itself.
the main conclusion i draw from this list is that
i am spending too much money on killie eggs.
on only one occasion were the eggs held up due to
customs. the eggs were shipped EMS and arrived in
new york in less than a day, where they were held
by customs for 4 days before being shipped to me.
one of the two bags had been slashed open and i
found peat and eggs scattered inside the package.
i have had fry hatch out from the unscathed bag,
with some eggs still clear. the openned bags peat
has eggs that are also still clear.
