Subject: [Killietalk] Expectations of shipped eggs

Irrespective of the buyer/seller that started this conversation, I think
some people have somewhat unrealistic expectations from shipped eggs,
especially overseas eggs. Shipped eggs are a gamble. And in my case, the
eggs I collect are also a gamble (I get better, but still not that good).
Don't believe everything you see on YouBoob:

My advice is to only seek a fish overseas if you have fully exhausted
internal sources. Sometimes it takes an email, sometimes it takes a phone
call, sometimes it takes attending a local meeting and twiddling your
fingers until the talker is done talking so you can get to the auction.

If you are in the situation to get eggs from overseas, be prepared to try
four to five times, possibly from different sources and at different times
during the year. If out of the species that you order, you manage to get
breeding pair(s) from a quarter of the species, consider that a successful
transaction. Expectations greater than that only set you up for
disappointment. And in the end, a species also ends up really costing a lot
more than the listed price (no they don't teach that in school, but it's
true).

My other advice would be to use killitalk more for your species requests. I
find that most people are more willing to help out with particular requests
if they happen to have the requested species, rather than make the effort to
post an availability list.
