Re: [Killietalk] Convention Show - New Rules

Does the new rule say I must raise the fish in tanks?

I raise exotic fish in outdoor pools/ponds every
summer. Killies will be out there in big numbers this
year. I got a 240 gallon pool waiting on notho.s this
next summer. So who knows, maybe I will have something
to match those wild caught. I also have a few wild
caught natives, but so far have not gotten them to
breed in captivity. I plan on putting them in a pool
next year as well. To give you an idea how far I am
going, I am purchasing a swimming pool. I am going to
build a greenhouse over it attached to the house(solar
winter heating). This swimming pool is going to be a
guppy factory. There is something about raising fish
in planted tubs, pools, and ponds. They tend to have
better color and over all health. They do get fed from
time to time live aquarium type foods(foods I raise in
other words) so they adjust better when bringing them
in tanks than wild caught. I used to breed and show a
few livebearers years ago. Back then I found the show
interesting(just veiwing the fish already entered) but
never could stay. I had to drop off my fish and head
back to more important things. I won several best in
class with my limited time involved. Pond/pool raised
guppies always out placed tank raised fish due to
brighter colors. Swords had good color either way but
had better size being pond raised.

So if any of you judging committee see this take it
to your chat. Also please answer wether or not my
pond, pool, tub raised fish qualify to be shown?

I know the cichlid shows are full of wild caught and
think it is wrong. Like other said it is the biggest
pockets and luck to some extent on who wins. Your
ruling has to be very clear. Wild caught is one thing,
pond raised is another, tank raised is yet another. An
easy out is to say you must raise the fish from fry to
adult. But even this does not say wether or not you
can continue the line like the AKA wishes. It just
says I can go them well.

                    Later, John
