Bobby, in some respects I agree with you. The nigipinnis that I maintained
in the early 70s was a magnificently colored strain with a very dark blue
body and many contrasting golden spots. I have a couple of the more
recently-collected populations and, while I do not see any difference in
robustness, finnage and size, the color is definitely not as striking. As
compared to the early 70s imports, they have a decidedly "muddier"
coloration.
