This will probably fall under the topic of "wacky ideas", but what about
a solar still. If you pumped the water into a large container outside
surrounded by clear plastic with the inner roof setup to drip the
condensate into a tube that goes into a separate tank. The water might
need to have some additives or be mixed with tap water, but it would be
free of water borne pathogens and metabolites.
