Re: [Killietalk] Water problems

Zeolite is pretty cheap in bulk (that is if purchased for non aquarium use),
that's assuming the main issues with using old aquarium water is the ammonia
family, particulates', and trace replenishment...
Could one use a "settling tank", draw off the "clear" water and run it
through sand & zeolite? Seems that would be close (or no?)

Subject: [Killietalk] Water problems

Georgia, as well as several other southern states are in the worst water
shortage in history. We are literally just about out of water. Here in
Lawrenceville they are reopening old wells for water that had been
closed due to pollution and radioactive contamination. Out tap water is
now different everyday. Soft, not so soft. Some days chlorine so strong
it makes my eyes water, other days a slight sulfur smell. We are under
severe water restrictions, sky rocketing prices and not far from
rationing.

Enough preamble. Has anyone done in serious work on devising an in home
water purification to get the 'water change' water clean and
reconditioned enough to put back? I know so far that with a lot of
carbon I can drop the TDS from 300 to about 150. But normally my tap is
under 20. I have not been able to get it down below 150. And I have not
even begun to think about other pollutants or disease factors in the
water. Any ideas or where to start?
