[Killietalk] Blue Gularis egg hatching techniques

I love these types of discussions on killietalk. All usefull
information. In truth, every different technique has to have the caveat
of 'in my water' added to it. With my super soft water I rarely ever see
a fungused egg on a stored mop or peat. I also have not knowingly ever
had a Blue Gularis egg hatch in the tank. Yet I have seen and been
amazed at the beautiful fish Bob raises. I stood in awe at the pair he
brought to the Tampa convention back in 2000?. They were just amazing.
Yet I have tried his method and watched the eggs all fungus in water.
But I have his method saved, knowing it is a good method if I have to
deal with different water.

I recently picked up a new to me different strain of Blue Gularis. I set
them up the same as the fish I have. Guess what. They breed like crazy.
But I get 1 male for 3-4 females. With my regular Blue Gularis it is
just about even. I know they came from harder water than mine, and I was
given no warnings of sex ratio problems. So I conclude that 'in my
water', this new strain has a sex ratio problem. I can either get over
it, change my water, or see if the next generation will straighten
itself out. I will do the last one, because extra females are a easy
problem to get rid of. Everyone wants females.

Moral of the story - The 'right' way is the one that works for you, 'in
your water'. Do not be afraid to experiment.
