Re: [Killietalk] Killietalk Digest, Vol 53, Frozen Brine shrimp; worthless?

SF Frozen brine shrimp is a very poor quality product. Hikari seems to have the best quality control but refreezing thawed product is usually the main reason why so much seems so bad.

Blood worms do seem to fare better undergoing the freezing process. I suspect that Chironomidae contain natural substances that help minimize the damage that ice crystals rupturing cell walls causes. They are adapted to survive near freezing temperatures. Brine shrimp are poorly adapted to near freezing conditions. Still, good quality frozen brine shrimp isn't worthless, just diminished in quality compared to live brine shrimp.

Frozen Daphnia is worthless. I don't know why but few fish that love live Daphnia will touch frozen Daphnia.
