Re: [Killietalk] Why is frozen (adult) brine shrimp considered a"worthless food"

Bruce, all...just taking here:

..it does appear that bloodwoods of any brand hold up better to the rigors
of food processing than the other "bugs" (and IMO the net result is
superior)...

It would not be too far fetched to speculate "insect meat" probably varies
even more so amongst the various processing & storage than even human
foods...Bacon, hamburger, Turkey and chicken all have different "shelf
lifes", processing and handling after being frozen then thawed, so why not
daphnia, BS & Bloodworms?
Maybe, the freeze, thaw, place in water "one method fits all" thing might be
the wrong universal approach (as opposed to the food itself)...

Subject: [Killietalk] Why is frozen (adult) brine shrimp considered
a"worthless food"

In a recent post, some one included frozen brine shrimp in a list of
supposedly
worthless foods... Why? I have raised many fish, including killies like
blue
gularis, and perhaps 12 species of cichlids, on diets that consisted of about
half frozen adult brine shrimp. I agree that dried ant eggs are worthless,
but
why put frozen brine shrimp in the same category? I also find frozen
Artemia
nauplii a valuable supplementary food for fry of some species, and for
adults
of smaller species like Poecilia wingei.

I also ask the same question about frozen Daphnia, though I have much less
experience with it. I admit that I have always been puzzled as to why live
Daphnia is such an obviously great food (I understand it is mostly shell and
water), but I don't understand why the frozen form should be more
"worthless"
than the live animals...
