Re: [Killietalk] I found another nice plant for cold fishrooms/low light

Roger that (about anacharis).I had to give up on it thanks to those VERY
small "flat ramshorns" snails (that came in on pond grown anacharis),

I substituted hornwort for it, but it is not as tolerant of high temps, NTM
I'm finding out the "shelf life" of hornwort needles are less than the
incubation time for many killies (eggs layed in hornwort end up one the
bottom of the tank as the plant sheds old foliage, w/ a lower survival rate;
apparently)

I found that anacharia is the best among some of the aquatic plants I have
experimented. I use one flourerscent tube (eg. 40 watts) above 4 10-gallon
tanks. Put a timer to turn on the light for about 4-5 hours a day. Anachria
is also very cheap. In the summer, I only put a few strands outside and
within 2 months they grow like weeds. I also put plant fertilizer to made
them healthy (eg. those aquatic plant fertilizer).

I have spent $$ on plants and found anacharia to be the most cost effective.

Now I am experimenting with money plant and bamboo -- real cheap and good. I
submerge these plants in the tank and so far so good. You will notice the
roots of the plant grow within a week. One thing to note is that some of the
money plant leaves will turn yellow and die off if submerge for too long
(eg. in my observation, it probably will turn yellow in about 2 months time
but not all of the leaves). I just dump away all those yellow leaves. Money
plant is excellent as I found that my fish just loves to lay down on those
broad leave.
