[Killietalk] I found another nice plant for cold fishrooms/low light
Someone probably knows this already; but thought I'd share...
Remember when Madagascar Lace plants were $10-$12 per and usually offered
half dead?
I dunno what grower is raising them in bulk and wholesaling them at low
prices, but a local "chain Pet shop" is selling large healthy full mature
plants for like $5 (I guess Madagascar lace plants aren't much different
morphologically than those cheapo "aponogeton bulbs)
Anyway, in the past I used to waste my money attempting to grow these in the
proverbial warm, well lit "community tank", with tons of fish and other fast
growing plants, et...always ended up with melted leafs and a algaefied mess
Well, I tried one last year anyway, I potted it up and stuck it in a low
light/low temp/low fish load/java moss/java-fern 15 gal tank and voila'; the
darn thing has thrived!
...and other than a short period w/o leaves, it has done great (I think it
has to rest)...I guess the trick with these is cool 70< temps, moderate
light, no snails and the right companion plants (to keep algae in check)
