Re: [Killietalk] Killietalk Digest, Vol 52, Humidity and power savings
I really related to you guy's. I live alone so I can do what I want; not even a cat to complain. I have a very small house, electric baseboard heating and basically live in a fish room. The humidity is usually abut 40%. I have about 25 tanks, using what would be the dining area as my main fish area with overflow into the living room. I don't keep as many killies as I have in the past but have reverted back to my roots as a discus breeder so my average tank is larger than those typically used for killies.
I heat each tank individually and converted all tanks to individually lit by CoralLife Aqualight Strips, dual T-5 NO fluorescents. The waste heat from all the tanks and the efficiency of the T-5 fluorescents over conventional lighting has resulted in an 8% reduction of my annual electric bill over the previous years. I have an averaged billing plan so it makes it easy to compare year to year.
Humidity control system is primitive. I just crack the front door open if the humidity gets too high.

I am moving into a new
house just for the fact that it has a building with it I can use for a fish room. Ever since I got involved with these killifish I can't seem to get enough tanks. Thats okay I would buy a million if I could.
