Re: [Killietalk] air exchanger heat exchanger

Hi again. No Rich, not as far North as you do. I live on Long Island where
we do get a lot of humidity in the summer months, but not the cold winters
that you do.My fishroom is much smaller than yours, about 200 square feet,
in the furnace and hot water heater room. I open the basement window for
instant fresh air and cooling, but have to close it at night because of
dampness that settles in and would mildew everything if I didn't. A
de-humidifier keeps the rest of the finished basement dry and warm most of
the time. I have a sliding door to my fishroom that is always kept closed,
even at night when the window is closed and the air exchanger fan is on. The
room stays warm because of the hot water heater, never below 75 F, but can
be cooled instantly by opening the basement window. So between the air
exchanger and the furnace and hot water heater, the room does not get humid
nor does it have odors, like from an old microworm culture! A larger room
such as yours might require a larger air exchanger. Always look for a
continuous duty fan motor , preferably one that can work on low voltage. You
may want to have it hooked up with a thermostat to prevent too much heat
from being removed from the room.

Anyone else out there with experience in this matter?

Harry.
