[Killietalk] Fp. gardneri (nigerianus?) Gardneri are "dark" colored...

I have a 10gal tank with approximately 10 Fp. gardneri (nigerianus?)
Misaje, ~3rd generation from the original pair I had gotten several
years ago. The population is just about 1:1 male:female. I just
realized, due to my inexperience, that they are generally dark colored,
not the lighter "metallic" blue I see in photos.

All seem quite healthy, albeit with the occassional nipped tail
fin. All well fed with fruit flies, grindals, New Life Spectrum
pellets, daphnia, etc. There are various plants in the tank, a
large-ish sponge filter. Black sand on the bottom. I change 25-50% of
the water weekly. The water is pretty soft, probably 50-100ppm TDS, pH
~7.0, temp is 72-75F.

Any reason they would have this overall darker coloring? Just
curious!
