Re: [Killietalk] Brine shrimp water salt

Asparagus, steamed of course. Little butter, garlic, and salt.
Delicious.
What does this have to do with saltwater?
Asparagus is salt tolerant, some gardeners keep the weeds down in their
asparagus beds by dumping used ice cream salt and water on them. Grow
asparagus!

Subject: [Killietalk] Brine shrimp water salt

A couple of months ago Robert Goldstein remarked to dump the old brine
shrimp water into something outside and raise up the adults. Sounded
pretty simple so why not. I had a bunch of empty Rubbermaid 18 gallon
tubs that had been raising tadpoles instead of daphnia. So I grabbed
one, turned it over and dumped in my daily gallon of used brine shrimp
water. When the first tub was filled, I started a second. He was right.
Takes me about 3 weeks to be netting out pretty good size portions of
adult brine shrimp. I can do each tub 2x a week. Each tub gives me what
cost about $7 from the pet shop as a brine shrimp portions. More tubs,
more adult shrimp. I feed a little spirulina flake. No idea if it
matters. But now that it is cooling down I have all this salt water to
do something with. Plus I still have my gallon a day. Seems like a lot
of salt to dump in the septic system or out on the ground. My old
dumping area on the side of the house has turned white and has become a
salt lick for the critters around here. But I still have more and more
salt.
