There would seem to be some confusion about this new species. Let me see if
I can clear that up.

N. sp. Messalo River MZHL-05-12 is a different species, representing one of
the undescribed N. sp. Makonde populations (a description of which is in
preparation).

There is only one known population of N. hengstleri and that is the Nassoro
MZHL 05-14 population. This was collected by Holger Hengstler. John
Rosenstock did not collect this fish but rather he collected the N. sp.
Makonde Notho (as mentioned above, a different species) from two localities
in the Pemba area in 2003. We collected populations of the Makonde Notho
just south of Pemba in 2004 and in southern Tanzania in 1997. There have
been other collections in northern Mozambique by professional ichthyologists
as well.

No, there have been numerous surveys done in "northern" Mozambique, John's
was just one, and Hengstler's was another. The other undescribed Notho you
refer to is the Makonde Notho and while some populations of that may
supeficially resemble N. hengstleri, they are quite distinct.

No, the MZHL 05-12 code belongs to a population of the as yet undescribed
Makonde Notho, i.e. N. sp. Messalo River MZHL-05-12. The new species should
be referred to as:

N. hengstleri Nassoro MZHL 05-14

By the way, has this new species been distributed in the hobby ? I am
uncertain of that.
