I use a Nikon system for fish photography and also have no problems using
the electronic flash units in I-TTL mode (SB 800s and also my older SB 28s).
Depending on the specific metering mode that is used, as well as the color
and reflectivity of the fish, I usually have to apply a small amount of
exposure compensation. The amount of compensation is determined by
experience.
