Re: [Killietalk] free plants

In a month it will be time for me to take down my ponds.
In order to get some last minute growth on my lilies I am getting rid of my
water lettuce in the next week. It has grown wonderfully. I can send a
boxful of plants six or more inches in diameter with roots longer than a
foot. My ponds are virtually snail free and the city sprays with a fish
safe insecticide every week to keep the mosquito population down. You
won't have to worry about dragon fly larva. The one pond yielded over a
hundred adult fancy guppies and is filled with babies.
live. If you want to send me a bunch of E. annulatus, bivatatum ,
bitaeniatum, australe or rainbow eggs in return, I won't complain.
Water lettuce will compete favorably with duckweed in a pond but doesn't
like full sun all day long. If you have tanks thick with duckweed, you can
grow water lettuce instead. I have tanks under shop lights in which it
thrives. When grown indoors the roots don't get as long but still extend 3
to 6 inches down
I do have some plants that have been raised indoors that I will trade for
eggs if you are only interested in plants acclimated to aquarium
conditions. I also have some water hyacinth. These will need more room to
ship, and won't survive indoors.
First come first served and probably after Labor Day they will all be on
the compost pile.
