Re: [Killietalk] Moina from peat
Hi all, from what i read so far on the internet. Daphnia normally
reproduce ass_exually and the offspring always is female daphnia
(instead of egg). In respond to change of light cycle/ temperature/
drying up of pool, female will produce male daphnia and that allows
them to reproduce s_exually which produce winter egg.
Winter egg can with stand cold, drought and they hatch when summer
arrive. The hatchling is always female.
So what you receive might have some winter eggs in it and hatch along
with the fish.
To get winter eggs, the changes have to be gradual as it takes time
for the male produced to mature and capable of se_xual reproduction.
Hope that helps.
