Re: [Killietalk] Thiosulfate de-chloroamine
Hi Russ
Reed Mariculture in the bay area sell 5# boxes of dry chloramX powder for about $40 with free shipping.
It will be a life time supply! They even have a chart to mix up amquel strength liquid:http://www.reed-mariculture.com/cloram-x/

Edd, do you still have a source for the old Amquel? It seems that everyone is selling Amquel + and I've noticed both a change in the reaction of some fish and the fact that this product literally stinks. I also thought that the use of cloramines is becomming a mandated issue for most community water sources so this should be an issue for most everyone, except those lucky enough to be on well water.
Russ searching for an alternate product on the smokey central coast of Cali.

For us at the store, the issue is not so much the chlorine but the ammoniarom the chloramines. Water in that area uses chloramines and not justhlorine. We use Amquel on carbon filtered water on every water changeoften 99% changes) and do just fine. The Amquel takes out the ammonianstantly and the fishies are fine ALL THE TIME.We had a customer with a 2 foot 10 year old arrowana. The Petsmart acrosshe street sold him a simple dechlorinator. He did a 90 % water change andame to us the next day with a dieing arrowana. We tested his water and themmonia was 7 ppm. The arrowana died within the hour.I've run some tests on customers who come in with high ammomia in theirater samples (say over 3ppm). I ad a drop of Amquel and its "gone in 60econds".Edd-----Original Message-----rom: killietalk-bounces at aka_org [mailto:killietalk-bounces at aka_org] Onehalf Of Robert Goldsteinent: Tuesday, August 21, 2007 7:20 AMo: killifish discussion listubject: Re: [Killietalk] Thiosulfate de-chloroamineI generally use dechlorinator when setting up a new tank (no matter how longI plan it to stand empty) or do a massive water change. I do not use echlorinator for topping off or small changes, as I think a small amount ofchlorine/chloramine would readily react with the organics in my tanks. For eople with sanitary tanks, this doesn't apply!

I do advertise Thiosulfate by the 1/2 pound in the BNL and if you need more I have it, just ask. I make up a 2 times the usual concentration Chlorine test reagent for those who want to know their changing water is Chlorine FREE. (thanks for the plug Lee)
Here in St Louis the tap water runs about 0.8 to 1.2 ppm Chlorine and Ammonia (NH4) at about 0.5 ppm for Chloroamine.
I change around 80 to 95% of the water in each of my tanks once every week to 10 days. With the new fish room I am up to around 200 gallons a week with practically complete changes in all the major Killie tanks. I have tried the partial water changes but the pH slowly drops to values below 6 and the fish dont produce or grow well, so I have stuck with the complete changes. Thiosulfate is and always has been my stand by for Chlorine removal. I am able to use a carbon filter at work but only for my community tanks.
Again, I recommend testing for Chlorine in change water and I have the kits. The info was in the July BNL and will be in the Sept BNL.
I still have a bunch of the Galaxy rasboras spawned and raised in St L tap water. The N'tui have about balanced out and the BIV Zagnanado are out growing my BBS. The Epiplatys lamottei are out growing their 35 and looking for new homes. The N. whitei need new homes and I have 3 new hatchings of Fp. avichang that are available.
There are pairs of riggenbachi available as well as a new RIV - uroflammeus siegfriedi (Now that's a beautiful ugly brown fish) I have pictures. and 2 - 10s of Ep. annulatus I do owe some fish to some who have requested and am waiting for the weather to cool to ship. The RIVs are doing well.
Inquiries off the list please. -- }}<{{{Â> <*{{(((>{{ Change as much water as often as you can! Charles Harrison in St Louis http://www.inkmkr.com/Fish/ }}<{{{Â> }}<{{{Â>
