Re: [Killietalk] oldest Killie in the hobby?

"AUS HJ53 (or whatever they
are), might mean 1953?...if that's true, is that even possible?"

Yes, the gold australe -- AUS HJ53 -- was developed from a sport in Germany by a man named Hjerresen in 1953 or so. I had no idea this strain was now called "AUSHJ53". That's kind of funny. Before the 1970's most australe were from fish originally bred in Germany before WW I, but we can't really trace the lineage. Same with blue gularis, dageti, lineatus etc...Only with "calabarica" is this possible as we know there was only one importation from an unknown locality.

Hi Killietalk, I'm 67 and the first killie I saw was Ep. dageti ( called
by the LFS " firethroat panchax") and that was in 1954. Who needs to
answer this question better are the "ancient ones" ( any hobbyist older
than me) and two I can think of off hand are Mr. Rosario Lacorte (78) and
Mr. Alan Fletcher(79). I'm not sure if Mr. Lee Harper was in the hobby
back then but he does qualify as an "ancient one". What about Mr. Larry
Waybright? Where does he fit in here? Just an old butchers "sick" sense
of humor.
