Ken, this is  not a smelly ,bug ridden live food. A plastic shoe box with a 
lid will keep out most gnats and other flying critters. The 1/2 inch of 
water in the box (to keepe the scubbie sponges saturated)can be changed 
regularly to keep it clean and odor free. Do not overfeed, but just enough 
to keep the grindals feeding and reproducing. Rotting food is smelly. This 
is a simple, inexpensive and very effective live food for our killifish.
