A quick search turned up the article by Ted Dalgleish in JAKA, July/August 
1997 titled Toxic Water or "Fright" Syndrome. In this article, Ted describes 
this phenomenon and speculates that it might be ammonia or nitrite poisoning. The 
remedy is a water change with some marine salt added (10% of 1025 sea water).
