In my experience the australes are particularly good for doing a 'timed'
spawning. Putting in a divider between the sexes, feeding them really
well, pulling the divider and voila, spawning time. I would add one
thing. Do a 50% or more water change right before you remove the
divider. If they are not spawning within an hour or so, put the divider
back in and work on the conditioning some more. This is how I set them
up for filming the spawnings. But a couple of caveats if using multiple
pairs with australes.
A spawning frenzy does not always work like you want.

And, while one female is spawning, the others are following and eating
the eggs as fast as they are laid.
But, a really pretty fish.
