[Killietalk] ROTOW, AWOK, what would you recommend to a newbie?
Changing the subject - are either of these books worth recommeding to newbies? If I had, say, $50 to spend on killi books, my recommendations would be
1) Join AKA for a year :-)
2) Hellner's "Success with Killifish" - usually can be found cheap
3) AKA Beginner's guide
4) Ed Warner's book
5) The "Enjoy your killifish" book if you can find it; great little book with lots of good info.
6) Roger Langton's breeding book.
and look on AKA.org and the numerous killi-related sites for pictures.
If I wanted good picture books and had like $100 to spend, I'd add in the 3 aqualog volumes (old world killies 1 & 2, New World killies)
Once you're past the beginner stage,
ROTOW if you're interested in genetics and killies; "Atlas of Killifish of the old world" if you have money to spend and want an older book that contains the text from ROTOW and various additional random pictures that may or may not be accurate. If Aqualog had been available when I first started acquiring killies, I'd have saved the money I spent on the Atlas (I already had a copy of ROTOW).
Costa's book (and definitely Roger Brousseau's SAA book) if you're interested in south american annuals.
A World Of Killifish vols. 1-4 (probably cost around $150-200 for everything, though I am not certain of the current prices.)
If you're interested in keeping up with names and nomenclature,
KMI
Some variation on Killi-Data (pocket, online, the whole thing for a bunch of Euros, ...)
If you like Cameronense, Wolfgang Eberl's "Fascination" book (esp. with the accompanying English translation) is a must-have. Outstanding photos, too.
