[Killietalk] New species from Surinam?
Those of you with the Yahoo home page may have seen an arrestingly beautiful image of a purple frog and an all too brief mention of an 2005-2006 expedition to the Nassau Mountains and a remote plateau in eastern Suriname. Mention was made of the discovery of six new fish species, but only one catfish, a Loricariid from the genus Guyanancistrus was mentioned.
Part of this was a survey to see if aluminum mining would put the wildlife at risk. (Well duh!) A sponsor was a mining company who probably would want to put themselves in the area as opposed to independent and illegal miners already there.
Naturally one wonders if any killies from the Rivulus group were found. Does anyone have more information?
Thanks!
