Sandy and all,
Speaking professionally regards to the Silicone RTV sealant,

The old sealant acts as a primer for the new sealant.

A good degreaser (don't use finger nail polish remover) denatured
alcohol is just as good. MEK and/or Acetone is fine also - and a
sharp razor blade will leave behind a base to bind to. The smoother
the better but there really isn't a reason or good way to remove ALL
the Silicone base formed by a good seal from the past. One does need
to have everything smooth but a very fine grit sand paper will also
buff up the edges to seal, again leaving behind the base coat from
the first sealing.

The silicone sealant actually bonds with the glass and becomes part of it.

Hope you found the hardware store by now, and we missed you at the
convention!

Hi Charles,

Wife went and had a total knee replacement so I have been"Nurse Betty" for
the last month. This is hard work. I can't wait to get back to my part time job
 and get a little relaxation:)

Sincerely,

Sandy
