[Killietalk] Hydra love me
"Not to be rude. How does everyone keep on getting Hydra. I have
never been able to get them going in my tanks. Even on purpose."
I have always gotten hydra from over(?) use of bbs. Now, I am still
quite relatively new to fish breeding and killies, so perhaps I am
doing something wrong. (I do research and review my processes every few
months, and experiment to see what works better).
I currently decapsulate my bs eggs with an aerated weak solution of
bleach, as per some web page instructions. While this greatly enhances
hatching (% hatched, and time-to-hatch), I still get hydra.
I've not experienced any fry deaths that I know of. I have not had any
weak-looking, or sickly fry that I would be inclined to attribute to
being "attacked" by hydra.
It's hard to tell if the ramshorn snails in the killie shoeboxes are
eating the hydra as well.
I will try the 1-2 pennies per gallon method on one and see what
happens. Does it matter what year range the penny is? I would assume
that over time the actual copper content has dropped.
