Re: [Killietalk] Long Incubation Period. Yep it will be longer, but it works.
Give it a "shot", Peter. I knew of an hobbyist in Orlando many, many yea rs
ago who raised oodles of AUS. He routinely kept them in their mops and very
moist and just set them aside for three or four weeks ( I don't recall the
exact time span, but it was longer than the water incubation period). When
placed in water ALL the eggs hatched at once. Consequently, all the fry were
of the same side whch reduced the problem of cannibalism by the older and
larger fry. Cronkhite, in IL several years ago, routinely placed SJO eggs in
their wet mops in a plastic bag and let them sit in the bags for several
weeks or until they eyed up. They were then placed in water and all hatched
at once. He raised thousands of SJO by this method and had large tanks full
of young fish in his basement. I was there and saw them personally. So,
Peter, it can be done, so go for it.
Let us know your results. Good luck. Harry Specht
