Re: [Killietalk] Breeding sunfish
Dear Ken,
<<...and Earl (or anyone) How the heck to you breed those sunfish?
(evergladei), got 5 in a clean 15gal ....a Madagascar lace is growing well
in it (if that clues you in on the tank params)>>
My E. evergladei in the dirty, planted-jammed, 1 gallon critter keeper has
produced more fry than all the other pairs in clean filtered larger aquaria.
If you can put in mulm or peat moss as a bottom substrate for the fry to
hide in, that may help. I have looked on mops but never found an egg from
these guys. Yet they were spawning in the tank.
I do feed live food, daphnia, mosquito larvae, bbs and grindal worms. They
don't eat much else. I haven't had any fry out of the F2 fish but they may
be too young.
Right now the males should be velvet black with iridescent blue dots forming
stripes. The females are still blah but hopefully fat.
Good luck,
Earl
