Re: [Killietalk] Calling customer Service:
Getting the tank water up to just 72F takes about 1000W, Nov-Apr.sounds like
a summertime thing then..
And just some babble while I'm here: saw some epi "mile 11's" lying on top
of the water sprite, almost totally out of water and thought "uh oh, bad
de-chlor again" (or some other irritant like gill disease or sumthin) .then
I noticed the other epi's (same water system) looked fine.every time I
lifted the lid the fish would re-submerge and go into the "feed me act" ...
So I took the risk and left the glass off so I could observe them later from
a couple feet back.as I approached, I could clearly see some where snapping
at "something" and splashing about ..
What it turned out to be was some kind of feeding behavior for surface
bugs..usually (and unfortunately) my tanks are infested with some kind of
mite/thip pest that skips on the surface and feeds on aquatic plants.I long
ago noticed most epi tanks didn't have those (or flys).now I know how the
fish get at them

Hi Ken (and all),
I would guess the most likely reason for failure of eggs from the Ep.
bifasciatus is that they are too cool. Bifasciatus is one of those Epis
that is found in fairly warm water. Mine bred at room temp, but that was in
the summer, probably up between 76 and 78. My guess is that 80 should be
enough to get 'em going, and they can probably take much higher than that.
Hope that helps,
Gary

I got E.singa, E.sexfaciatus, E.inf. "Bidou" & "Mile 11" all laying (there
are like 20 hungry adults in the singa tank, and still fry "seem"
untouched!!!...odd)
But: E.Lamottei, E.bifaciatus & E.huberi eat like pigs, live in the same
water but nary an egg (140ppm, 72-75F)...any "particulars" appreciated (on
or offlist)
